It almost seems crazy to even ask that question if you're interested in learning German, but it can help you narrow down your scope of study. If you are serious about learning German with the aim of becoming practically a native German speaker, then of course you have to study every aspect of the language, from the grammar to vocabulary to spelling to colloquialisms and maybe even slang, to have some fun with the language. However, if you are only learning German for the purpose of simply being able to converse in the language for your vacation, or you're just interested in learning a few phrases, then you might not need to put in all the time and effort to study German grammar. After all, if you're simply vacationing in a German-speaking country, you may just want to be armed with the important phrases that can help you get by throughout your holiday. Of course, this only applies if you're just going to use German for a short period of time.
